"This Summit was a unique opportunity to meet with other rural legislators, hear from national and international leaders and exchange ideas that will help me better serve the people of my district and state."
- Rep. Gatto
(JUNEAU) - Representative Carl Gatto (R-Palmer), a state leader in rural and agricultural policy, recently joined with over 180 other leaders from 43 states, Mexico, Canada, US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico at the third Annual Legislative Agricultural Chairs Summit in Memphis, TN.
The Summit, which included speakers on Rural Development, Trade and federal policies provided an opportunity to learn and share information across state and national boarders. Speakers included USDA Undersecretary Bill Hawks and former Congressman Charlie Stenholm of Texas. The Summit is a collaborative effort of the Council on State Governments, National Conference of State Legislatures and the Rural Policy Research Institute.
Small group discussions on dairy, energy policy, the endangered species act, tobacco funds, property rights and rural entrepreneurship offered participants an opportunity to focus on the specific issues facing their communities.
"This Summit was a unique opportunity to meet with other rural legislators, hear from national and international leaders and exchange ideas that will help me better serve the people of my district and state," said Representative Gatto.
