(JUNEAU) - The Senate Health, Education and Social Services Committee will hold the first hearing this Wednesday, January 19, 2005 on legislation that allows the victims of juvenile vandalism to hold the parents financially responsible for the full cost of the damage.
SB 10 was co-sponsored by Senator Gretchen Guess. (D -Anchorage) and Senator Fred Dyson. (R- Eagle River)
"It's time to make vandals pay for the damage that is plaguing our communities. School districts are being forced to take money away from the classroom and use it to pay for the senseless destruction inflicted on our schools by a few rebellious kids," says Senator Dyson.
Testifying at the hearing in Juneau will be representatives from the Juneau School District, the Alaska Association of School Boards and the Alaska Association of School Administrators.
A representative from the Anchorage School District is also expected to testify from the Anchorage Legislative Information Office.
