"I am interested in your opinions on where you think the “bridge” money should go."
- Sen. Bunde
Dear Neighbors,
Over the interim, I have worked on several pieces of legislation. I have pre-filed 3 pieces of legislation regarding eminent domain, material witnesses and sentencing for sex offenders.
Since the recent Supreme Court decision regarding eminent domain, residents have been interested in who or what will have the power in property right disputes in Alaska. The legislation I introduced prevents the taking of private property for commercial developments.
I have also introduced a material witness bill in reaction to the gang violence that has been growing in Anchorage. Police have been unable to hold witnesses for questioning immediately after assaults have occurred. Later, the Anchorage Police Department finds it difficult or impossible to locate these same witnesses.
Lastly, I introduced legislation that strengthens sentencing for sex offenders as well as requires polygraph testing for sex offenders who are on probation or parole. Alaska continues to have extremely high rates of sexual abuse and sexual assault. This legislation uses multiple tools to curb our high offense rates.
Another item in the news is Alaska’s federal “bridge money”. Alaska received 400 million dollars originally earmarked for Gravina and Knik Arm bridges. However, that money can now be used for one or both of these bridge projects and/or other transportation needs. I am interested in your opinions on where you think the “bridge” money should go.
We are in the process of transitioning to Juneau. The Anchorage office will be closed; however, you can reach the Juneau office at 269-0181 or 1-800-892-4843.
As always, I look forward to your input on these and other issues in Alaska. Because of the transition to Juneau there may be a delay in my getting back to you. However, I will read and respond to all of communications.
I wish you and yours the very best in the coming New Year.
Sincerely,
