"... it is important that they know they are appreciated, supported, and prayed for as our country faces the very real threat of war."
- Sen. Bunde
(JUNEAU) - Senate Joint Resolution 9 unanimously passed the House of Representatives Friday, just hours before a large rally in front of the capitol to honor and support our troops fight for the liberation of Iraq and the security of our country.
SJR 9, sponsored by Senator Con Bunde (R-Anchorage) and co-sponsored by all 18 senators present, expresses the Alaska State Legislature's:
Recognition - of the commitment of the members of the Alaska Army National Guard, the Alaska Air National Guard, and active duty members of the military, and expresses its support for these gallant defenders of freedom;
Gratitude - for the sacrifices of the families, and, and in the case of the National Guard, the civilian employers of our men and women in uniform; and our
Sincere hope and trust that all members of the Alaska National Guard and active duty members of the military return safely to their families from wherever they may be assigned.
"This resolution is the least we can do to recognize our gallant young men and women who make tremendous sacrifices every day in their service to our country," said Bunde. "They and their families make important contributions to the State of Alaska and it is important that they know they are appreciated, supported, and prayed for as our country faces the very real threat of war. We counted them as they left and we look forward to counting the same number when they come home."
