Dear Neighbors,
Legislative committees are working hard on various pieces of legislation and budget issues. As chair of the Senate Labor & Commerce Committee and Vice-chair of Senate Finance, I will be working on the following bills next week:
Tuesday, Feb. 3, Senate Labor and Commerce Committee:
SB 273: ASMI Board/Seafood Taxes and Assessments
A Salmon Task Force bill that proposes to tax all seafood harvesters to provide increased ability to market Alaska seafood, and reduces the number of ASMI Board members.
HB 305: Unemployment Compensation Benefits
Proposes an increase in the maximum weekly benefit by 8.2% over three years.
SB 276: Alaska Insurance Guaranty Association
Addresses the effects of the insolvency of the Fremont Insurance Co, Alaska's largest workman's compensation insurance benefits.
Thursday, Feb. 5, Senate Labor and Commerce Committee:
Committee Work Session on Pull-tab Regulations
The committee will discuss whether there should be additional changes to pull-tab regulations.
Thursday, Feb. 5, Senate Finance Committee:
HB 374: SENIORCARE
The committee will receive information about the Governor's bill to provide prescription drug coverage to needy seniors.

Denali Commission Internships Available:
The Denali Commission is now accepting applications for their 2004 Summer Internship Program. This paid internship is a 12-week summer program for graduate and undergraduate students who are Alaska residents. Interns provide assistance to Alaska's rural communities for critical utilities, infrastructure, and economic support.
The following general areas of internship work are available:
