Dear Neighbors,

Legislative committees are working hard on various pieces of legislation and budget issues. As chair of the Senate Labor & Commerce Committee and Vice-chair of Senate Finance, I will be working on the following bills next week:

Tuesday, Feb. 3, Senate Labor and Commerce Committee:

SB 273: ASMI Board/Seafood Taxes and Assessments

A Salmon Task Force bill that proposes to tax all seafood harvesters to provide increased ability to market Alaska seafood, and reduces the number of ASMI Board members.

HB 305: Unemployment Compensation Benefits

Proposes an increase in the maximum weekly benefit by 8.2% over three years.

SB 276: Alaska Insurance Guaranty Association

Addresses the effects of the insolvency of the Fremont Insurance Co, Alaska's largest workman's compensation insurance benefits.

Thursday, Feb. 5, Senate Labor and Commerce Committee:

Committee Work Session on Pull-tab Regulations

The committee will discuss whether there should be additional changes to pull-tab regulations.

Thursday, Feb. 5, Senate Finance Committee:

HB 374: SENIORCARE

The committee will receive information about the Governor's bill to provide prescription drug coverage to needy seniors.

For specific information about these and other bills being considered by the Legislature, please either contact my office or go to the Bill Action Status Inquiry System (BASIS) at www.legis.state.ak.us/basis.

As always, if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions about any issue before the Legislature, or if you need assistance with a state department, please contact me. I am here to serve you.
