I reported the final survey results to you on May 7th. A few eagle-eyed district residents pointed out to me that the results of the subsistence question could not have been accurate. They were absolutely correct, and I apologize for the error.
I reported that 70% of respondents supported amending the Constitution, 10% supported an amendment after an appeal to the US
Supreme Court, 6% supported an amendment after changes to ANILCA, and 37% did not support an amendment.
A computer glitch incorrectly tallied the number of residents who support amending the Constitution to provide a rural preference for access to fish and game. For some reason, the program reported the number of those who support amending the Constitution and those who opposed it as one large group who support such an amendment. This is the only question that had such a glitch.
I have now resolved the error. The correct results are as follows:
The question of amending the equal access portion of our Constitution to provide for a rural priority for subsistence has been with us for at least 30 years. (Please choose one of the following options.)
37%
The Constitution should be amended to provide for a rural preference for access to fish and game.
10%
The Constitution should be amended only after an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court on the equal protection
provision.
7%
The Constitution should be amended only after changes to the federal law, ANILCA, are enacted.
36%
The Constitution should not be amended to provide for a rural priority.
9%

I apologize for the error and will be more vigilant in reporting future survey tallies.
