"This format will be both exciting and beneficial. Not only will we provide the UAA students with a 'real life' test of their skills and abilities, but we will end up with a product that all of our constituents can watch from their homes and feel part of the process."
- Rep. Anderson
(Anchorage) - Representative Tom Anderson (R-East Anchorage), Chair of the Anchorage Caucus announced today the November 19th meeting of the Anchorage Caucus will be held on the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) campus starting at 9:00am.
Main topics of discussion will be Anchorage transportation issues, K-12 and University education issues, and open questions from UAA students. Members of the media are invited.
This meeting has been coordinated through the UAA Journalism and Public Communications (JPC) Department and will be videotaped, edited, and produced by UAA students and televised on Public Access Cable Channel 9 on November 21st at 8:00pm.
In addition to the technical side, the JPC department has been integral in the setup and execution of a poll of registered voters in Anchorage, the results of which will be presented at the meeting. Poll topics focus on fiscal issues and resource development.
"This format will be both exciting and beneficial." Anderson said. "Not only will we provide the UAA students with a 'real life' test of their skills and abilities, but we will end up with a product that all of our constituents can watch from their homes and feel part of the process. I am hopeful this will be the beginning of a trend to videotape future meetings for televised broadcast so that the Anchorage Caucus meetings will be accessible to all residents."
Anderson continued to say, "We could not have accomplished this new format without the cooperation of Dr. Fred Pearce and the crew at the JPC department. Their help and expertise are the catalyst to this project becoming a great success."
The Anchorage Caucus is made up of all State Senate and House members representing the residents of the Municipality.
